1. Media Accreditation

For media accreditation, the Irish government is asking journalists to register via their EU Presidency Media Accreditation Form.

Instructions:

• From the page above, click on "Proceed to media accreditation form"
• Complete the mandatory fields in the form
•  In the section Meetings and Events in Ireland toward the bottom of the page, select the OECD Ministers Conference Dublin Castle
• Click on the Submit button.

Forum "Education and Social Cohesion" (3 p.m.- 6 p.m. GMT, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Paris time). The Forum is open to the media and will be Web cast live.

• 3.00 p.m. - 3.10 p.m. - Opening remarks by the Chair and Barry McGaw, Director, Directorate for Education, OECD.
• 3.10 p.m. - 3.30 p.m. - Keynote speaker: Robert D. Putnam, Professor of Public Policy, Harvard University. Topic: Education, Diversity, Social Cohesion and "Social Capital".
• 3.30 p.m. - 4.00 p.m. - Discussion: Education contribution to social cohesion.
• 4.00 p.m. - 4.30 p.m. - Coffee Break.
• 4.30 p.m. - 5.45 p.m. - Discussion: Education and increasing disparity of student populations.
• 5.45 p.m. - 5.55 p.m. - Concluding remarks: Hugh Brady, President, University College Dublin.

• 09.00 a.m.:  Photo opportunity prior to the opening session of the Ministerial Meeting
• 09.30 a.m - 10.30 a.m.:  Abrar Hasan, head of the OECD Education and Training Policy Division (ETP), Tom Schuller, head of the Centre for Educational Research and Innovation (CERI), and Richard Yelland, head of the Education Management and Infrastructure Division, will review the outlook for higher education amid changes in governance, roles and structures of universities. Abrar Hasan, and Greg Wurzburg, senior analyst in ETP, will discuss policies for lifelong learning and its financing.
• 11.00 a.m. - 12 noon: Phil McKenzie and Paulo Santiago, from the OECD's Education and Training Policy Division, will discuss the challenges of "Attracting, Developing and Retaining Effective Teachers".

• 2.00 p.m.: News Briefing given by Noel Dempsey, Ireland's Minister for Education and Science, and Barry McGaw.
• 3.00 p.m. - 4 p.m.: Tom Schuller and David Istance, senior analyst in CERI, will talk about two current projects: Understanding the Brain: implications for education and Schooling for Tomorrow:  future scenarios.
• 5.30 p.m.: Final News Briefing given by Noel Dempsey and Barry McGaw.
