Meeting with the OECD Secretary-General
On 12 March 2008, Egypt’s Minister of State for Administrative Development, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Darwish met the OECD Secretary-General, Mr. Angel Gurría to discuss common projects in the area of public sector modernisation.
The government of Egypt has played a leading role in the OECD-MENA Initiative on Governance and Investment for Development. Dr. Darwish chairs the Steering Group of the OECD-MENA Governance Programme and has hosted in this function the last Steering Group Meeting at Ministerial Level on 29 November 2007 in Cairo.
A number of regional and country-specific activities are currently planned jointly with the Egyptian government whitin the framework of the OECD-MENA Governance Programme, for example a regional capacity building seminar on administrative simplification, a seminar on the challenges of communicating reforms, a peer review on e-government, and a meeting of Senior Budget Officials from MENA countries.
Minister Darwish's Adress to the OECD Council
Minister Darwish addressed the OECD Council at its session on 13 March 2008 on economic developments in non-member countries.
The OECD Council is the 30-member organisation’s oversight and decision-making body that shares experiences also with non-member countries, such as Egypt, which has been co-operating very closely with the organisation since 2004.
In his speech, Dr. Darwish addressed the state of Egypt’s economic and public sector reform agenda. He introduced the Egyptian National Reform Agenda and the five-year National Development Plan, which aims at fostering economic growth by private and public sector development. He underlined Egypt’s commitment to co-operate with OECD member countries and the Secretariat to achieve key objectives of its ambitious reform agenda.
Ahead of his address to the OECD Council, Minister Darwish held a press briefing in front of journalists on Wednesday, 12 March 2008.
