Building Trust in the Online Environment: Business-to-Consumer Dispute Resolution

Building Trust in the Online Environment: Business-to-Consumer Dispute Resolution

The Hague, the Netherlands, 11-12 December 2000

Conference jointly organised by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCPIL), and International Chamber of Commerce (ICC)

Online alternative dispute resolution mechanisms (ADR) hold the promise of providing fast, low-cost and accessible redress for a large number of small claims and low-value transactions arising from business-to-consumer (B2C) online interactions. This conference provided the opportunity for presenting, discussing and disseminating information on the diverse range of existing online ADR mechanisms. Participants also explored how online ADR can improve trust for global electronic commerce by helping to resolve B2C disputes arising from privacy and consumer protection issues.

The OECD welcomes comments and publications related to the topic of the conference for posting on this Web site. Comments should include the heading "Conference on Building Trust in the Online Environment: Business to Consumer Dispute Resolution", and should be sent as an e-mail attachment in ASCII, Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF format to: dsti.contact@oecd.org. The OECD will review all information submitted before publishing it on line.
