2009 Conference on Empowering E-Consumers: Strengthening Consumer Protection in the Internet Economy, Washington, 8-10 December 2009
In follow-up to the Seoul Ministerial Meeting on the Future of the Internet Economy, the OECD’s Committee on Consumer Policy has initiated a review of the 1999 OECD Guidelines for Consumer Protection in the Context of Electronic Commerce to examine their effectiveness in OECD and non-member economies, and explore the opportunities and challenges faced by consumers in today’s e-commerce. The Conference will bring together senior government officials from OECD and non-member economies with academics, representatives from the business, civil society and international organisations. The purpose will be to identify gaps in the guidelines and to examine areas where the Guidelines may need to be adapted or revised.
