High-Level Forum on Sickness, Disability and Work: Forum documentation

This note suggests some questions to help guide the discussions among Forum participants. The structure of the note follows the programme of the two days, with an open seminar on 14 May and a closed ministerial meeting on 15 May. More details on sickness and disability policy challenges as well as policy solutions, drawing from good practice in the reviewed countries, can be found in the below-listed Background Paper prepared for the Forum.

The background paper consists of two parts. In the first section it provides a snapshot of key outcomes to illustrate what the problems are for the people and for the society as a whole. The focus is on comparative indicators for as many OECD countries as possible, drawing on both administrative sources and micro data. The second part summarises main lessons learned from the thematic review on Sickness, Disability and Work policies in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The paper reviews these and other emerging issues in light of the recent downturn in the global economy.
