The OECD works with Parliamentarians through various channels:

OECD Parliamentary Network

In 2011, the Secretary-General created an OECD Parliamentary Network as a vehicle to further facilitate dialogue and improve the efficiency of information flow between the OECD and parliaments. Parliaments play a fundamental role in catalysing the voices of the voters into legislation. Through its Parliamentary Network the OECD aims to inform these policy debates with its cross-country data, evidence-based analysis and policy advice.

  • Many parliaments already nominated official parliamentary focal points.
  • Any interested (active) MPs and parliamentary staffers from OECD countries can become members of the Network.
  • MPs from other countries are invited to join as associate members.
  • The existing institutional relationships with parliamentary assemblies and organisations will be integrated into the Network.

Collaboration with other parliamentary assemblies and networks

The OECD has longstanding relationships with:

  • Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which annually debates the work of the OECD. (more...)
  • NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Since 1976, members of the Economics and Security Committee of the NATO PA meet with the OECD Secretariat in Paris to learn more about the OECD's work. Parliamentarians from non-NATO OECD countries have been invited to this meeting since 2001 (Speech by the Secretary-General and Presentations from 2012 meeting).
  • The OECD also co-operates more informally with other parliamentary organisations and networks.

Seminars

  • High-Level Parliamentary Seminars. OECD High-level Parliamentary Seminars are open to MPs from OECD member and other countries to disseminate the OECD’s work to MPs and to obtain their views on OECD policy analysis. (Calendar of Events...)
  • Visits and Seminars Programme. Over the course of the year, the Visits/Seminars Programme works in conjunction with member country delegations to arrange briefings on the OECD for parliamentarians at the OECD headquarters.

National parliamentary outreach

OECD Centres conduct outreach to parliaments in their capitals on an on-going basis. The Secretary-General and the Deputy Secretary-Generals frequently meet with MPs when they visit member and other countries.

Other channels of contact with Parliamentarians

  • OECD Directorates. Each OECD Directorate maintains contacts with individual MPs in member countries. Research for Economic Surveys and other country studies often include discussions with parliaments. The OECD Working Party of Senior Budget Officials has created a network of parliamentary budget officials that meets annually.
  • OECD Forum. Parliamentarians are regularly invited to the OECD Forum.
