Message of the OECD Staff Association

23/04/2007 - The OECD's Staff Association, which represents the staff of the Organisation, issued a statement expressing its support for Secretary-General Angel Gurría in the face of recent media attacks.

"There is a recent article in The Economist harshly and maliciously attacking the OECD and its Secretary-General. The Staff Association welcomes the fact that our Secretary-General communicated this article to the Staff of the Organisation, as well as his response and the accompanying relevant correspondence.

Several statements by officials with which we fully agree denounce the accusations made against our Organisation. We all consider that calling into question the integrity and credibilty of the OECD is tantamount to bringing all staff members into disrepute.

The Staff Association considers that the strength of the OECD resides in the diversity, the competence, the honesty and the integrity of its staff, which make it possible to guarantee reliable and impartial work.

The Staff Association, whose mission is to defend Staff, wished to share with you its indignation and to state that we are all proud of our Organisation, and that we will not let its image be tarnished."

Financial crisis: Save our savings

Amid the worst current financial crisis since the 1930s, EU leaders have pledged to protect savers’ deposits. Already most OECD countries have explicit deposit insurance schemes for savings up to certain limits. In a number of countries these have now been raised temporarily.
