Official visit of the Secretary-General to Norway (Oslo, 4 - 6 March 2008)

During his official visit to Norway, OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría met with:

  • His Majesty Harald V, King of Norway
  • Mr. Jens Stoltenberg, Prime Minister
  • Mr. Jonas Gahr Støre, Minister of Foreign Affairs
  • Mr. Erik Solheim, Minister of Environment and International Development
  • Ms. Tora Aasland, Minister of Research
  • Ms. Kristin Halvorsen, Minister of Finance
  • Mr. Dag Terje Andersen, Minister of Trade and Industry
  • The Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs and Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs at the Storting (Norwegian Parliament). Read Mr. Gurría's allocution to the parliament.
  • Mr. Finn Bergesen Jr., Director general of the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO)
  • Ms Trine Lise Sundnes, Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions


In addition to these bilateral meetings, Mr Gurría held a joint press conference with the Prime Minister, the Minister of Environment and Mr. Lorents G. Lorentsen, Director of the OECD Environment directorate, for the official launch of the OECD Environmental Outlook (read Mr. Gurría's speech).


He also gave a keynote speech at the seminar "Sustainable Development and Climate Change: International and National Perspectives". His presentation was followed by speeches from Ms. Kristin Halvorsen, Minister of Finance and Mr. Erik Solheim, Minister of Environment.

Financial crisis: Save our savings

Amid the worst current financial crisis since the 1930s, EU leaders have pledged to protect savers’ deposits. Already most OECD countries have explicit deposit insurance schemes for savings up to certain limits. In a number of countries these have now been raised temporarily.
