Presentation of the Latin American Economic Outlook 2008 in Beijing - 25 March 2008

The Latin American Economic Outlook 2008 was presented in Beijing on March 25, at a seminar hosted by the Chinese Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS) and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). The presentation took place during OECD Secretary General Angel Gurria's official visit to Beijing. Secretary General Gurría met with top Chinese government officials during his trip, and also presented the OECD Development Center publication Chinese Economic Performance in the Long Run.

Following introductory remarks by OECD Secretary General Angel Gurría and CASS Vice-President Chen Jiagui, OECD Development Centre Director Javier Santiso presented the main conclusions and policy recommendations of the Latin American Economic Outlook 2008. A high-level panel of representatives from the government and the private sector analysed in further depth the economic implications of China's rise for Latin America.
