Purpose of aid charts

Click on purpose of aid charts to access the most frequently requested sectoral data in ready-made tables and charts.

DAC statistics on aid by purpose are based on donors’ reporting on (a) the sector of destination of individual aid activities, and (b) total amounts of aid per sector per year.

The DAC uses a sector classification specifically developed to track aid flows and to permit measuring the share of each sector (e.g. health, energy, agriculture) or other purpose category (e.g. balance-of-payments support, emergency assistance) in total aid.   All in all, there are 26 main sector/purpose categories, each of which is defined through a number of “purpose codes”.

The online databases of the DAC (IDS/o) permit users to create statistical presentations corresponding to their specific needs.  Below are examples from the CRS User's Guide on how to use IDS/o to obtain:

   ·   Trends in total aid by sector

   ·   Breakdowns by sub-sector

   ·   Total amounts of aid by sector for a recipient

   ·   Listings of activities in a specific sector in a recipient country
