Africa Regional Meeting: Procurement Capacity Development

From 12-14 December 2006 the Government of Uganda hosted the Africa regional meeting on procurement capacity development in Kampala. This event was sponsored by the African Development Bank and the Africa Region of the World Bank in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the OECD-DAC Joint Venture for Procurement.

This was the first regional meeting whose objectives were to further procurement capacity development in various regions by bringing together partner countries and organisations to share their experiences in improving the quality and performance of national procurement systems. This regional meeting gave the OECD-DAC Joint Venture for Procurement the opportunity to present the version 4 methodology and provided a forum for launching the Joint Venture’s Pilot Exercise by announcing the selected pilot countries and for clarifying the related process and expected results.

Participants were invited from all Anglophone and Francophone countries in Africa, including those of North Africa, but excluding Lusophone countries (who will be invited to attend the Latin American regional meeting expected in April). On the donor side, bilateral and multilateral agencies (MDBs, UNDP, EC and OECD-DAC Secretariat) were invited to attend.
