Secretary-General's official visit to Poland (22-25 November 2006)

During his official visit to Poland, OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría met with:

• Mr. Jaroslaw KACZYNSKI, Prime Minister (22 November)
• Ms. Zyta GILOWSKA, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance (22 November)
• Mr. Piotr WOZNIAK, Minister of the Economy (22 November)
• Ms. Anna FOTYGA, Minister of Foreign Affairs (24 November)
• Prof. Leszek BALCEROWICZ, President of the National Bank of Poland (22 November)
• parliamentarians
• business leaders (24 November).

Mr Gurría also:

• gave the following speech, "A vision for Poland: Joining the world’s most advanced", at a conference celebrating 10 years of Polish membership in the OECD, on 23 November
• gave a lecture at the Economics University of Warsaw on "Challenges of globalisation: the role of the OECD", on 24 November
• participated in a press conference on 23 November, hosted by the Minister of Economy, Mr. Piotr WOZNIAK
• addressed experts from the Centre for Eastern Studies of the Ministry of Economy, on "The role of the OECD in the economic transition of central and eastern european countries", on 24 November.

The meetings and discussions focused on various themes, including:

• the current OECD assessment of the Polish economy
• priorities and enlargement of the OECD
• policies to enhance growth and improve the business environment
• the global outlook
• recent economic performance and the impact on emerging economies including Poland
• continuation of tax reform in Poland and the success of the Polish pension reform
• key issues including financial, energy, and development aid.
