Regional Workshop on Trade Capacity Building in Mombasa, Kenya (26-27/08/2002)

This workshop was organised by the Development Co-operation Directorate and the OECD Development Centre in collaboration with UNECA and UNDP.
Participants
Participants included representatives from the public and private sectors and civil society from the East Africa region as well as from a wide range of international organisations including ITC and UNCTAD.
Objectives
This was an opportunity for local and regional stakeholders together with donor representatives to share experiences and good practices in trade capacity building.
The main objectives of the workshop were to:
- Discuss current approaches to trade capacity building in African countries;
- Pinpoint and explore mechanisms through which a participatory trade policy process can be fostered and mainstreamed into the national development and poverty reduction strategies;
- Explore the role of donors in facilitating and supporting the trade policy process;
- Consider tools and methods for strengthening the trade policy process and trade capacity.
