Background information

Discussions in the 2003-2005 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) on the international management of the Internet and the role of all stakeholders led to the creation of the Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG) and the final declaration of WSIS in 2005 created the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), a forum for multi-stakeholder policy dialogue. The OECD prepared a report as an input to the United Nations Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG) in 2005, sent a letter concerning the potential contribution of the OECD to the IGF in 2006 and was present at the first four meetings of the IGF.
