Third Workshop of the APEC-OECD Co-operative Initiative on Regulatory Reform

An international workshop hosted by the Government of Korea, the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), 16-18 October 2002, Island of Jeju, Korea

The APEC-OECD Co-operative Initiative on Regulatory Reform provides a forum for multidisciplinary policy discussion to deepen understanding of regulatory reform as a vector for stimulating economic productivity and growth.

The Jeju Workshop was held on 16-17 October 2002 and focused on the role of transparency in regulatory reform and on the state and future regulatory reform in key economic sectors. The Workshop was followed by an international high-level conference on 18 October which appraised progress and discussed future steps for the APEC-OECD Co-operative Initiative on Regulatory Reform on Regulatory Transparency and on Regulatory Reform in the Financial, Telecommunication and Electricity Sectors. The conference was opened by the Korean Prime Minister, the Secretary General of the OECD, the Vice President of IBRD, the Vice President of ADB, and the President of the Board of the Peruvian competition authority (INDECOPI), and was an opportunity to discuss and exchange views on the future direction of regulatory reform and the furthering of the APEC-OECD Co-perative Initiative.

The Third Workshop of the APEC-OECD Co-operative Initiative was the follow-up of the Singapore Launching Conference of the APEC-OECD Co-operative Initiative (February 2001), the First Workshop in Beijing, China (September 2001) and the Second Workshop in Merida, Mexico (April 2002).
