Doha Financing for Development Conference
Longer term financial scenarios for developing countries
Side event - The Accra Agenda for Action
29 november, 13:00-15:00
This event, sponsored by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), explored how the Accra Agenda for Action (AAA) can provide coherent reinforcement of domestic policies and international support in ways that generate viable longer term financial scenarios for developing countries.
The AAA, which emerged from the Third High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness (HLF3), provides a roadmap to ensure that aid delivers more development impact. The result of an unprecedented alliance of development partners, the AAA calls for greater transparency and predictability of aid flows. This is an essential part of the compact at the core of the the Financing for Development Conference.
The side event was moderated by Angel Gurria, Secretary-General of the OECD. It focused, in two separate sessions, on the Predictability of Aid and on Domestic Revenue Mobilisation. Panellists included Mr. Gurria; Eckhard Deutscher, Chair of the OECD Development Assistance Committee; Richard Carey, Director of the OECD Development Co-operation Directorate; Trevor Manuel, Minister of Finance, South Africa; Bob McMullan, Parliamentary Secretary for International Development Assistance, Australia; Antoinette Sayeh, Director, Africa Department, IMF; and Brett House, Policy Advisor, UNDP.
