Fostering international scientific co-operation in nanotechnology

This project aims to facilitate international research collaboration and scientific co-operation in nanotechnology. The first activity undertaken by the WPN was to identify national websites which can be accessed by researchers in universities, the public sector and companies as a source of potential partners and facilities for nanotechnology research collaboration. The second activity was a policy roundtable on "International Scientific Co-operation in Nanotechnology" in Braga, Portugal, in June 2009.

Activities in 2008

A short template was completed in 2008 by nearly 30 countries. They each identified up to five web sites of national research facilities having equipment and expertise appropriate to nanotechnology research (i.e. equipment which is large scale and /or highly specialised and not widely available). The web sites were divided into three categories: portals (central web portals for access to national nanotechnology research facilities), networks (websites acting as a single information point and covering more than one research facility) and research facilities (web sites of individual research facilities).

The list of national websites was updated in January 2009. Delegations and the Secretariat are promoting its use as a tool to assist in increasing international scientific co-operation in nanotechnology.

Activities in 2009

A policy roundtable on international scientific co-operation in nanotechnology took place in Braga, Portugal on 22-23 June 2009, hosted by Portugal. This activity complements the workshop of the Committee for Scientific and Technological Policy (CSTP) on international S&T co-operation to address global challenges.
