Conference on International S&T Co-operation for Sustainable Development, Seoul (Korea)

15-17 November 2000, Seoul

The objective of the conference is to discuss ways to promote and facilitate international co-operation in the development and diffusion of environmental technologies, in particular, cleaner technologies between developed and developing countries. To this end, it aims to identify barriers impeding effective co-operation and to propose recommendations to enhance international S&T co-operation involving both the public and private sectors while addressing the needs of developing countries.

The conference was organised in two-day plenary/parallel sessions followed by a one-day industry tour. Parallel sessions focused on sustainable development S&T co-operation issues in the areas of energy, transport, water, and industrial technologies. Participants included policy makers from OECD governments, international organisations, representatives from the business sector as well as internationally established experts. Officials and experts from non-member countries were also invited as speakers or discussants. The conference was chaired by Mr. Thorvald Moe, Deputy Secretary General of the OECD, and its results contributed to the OECD horizontal project on sustainable development.
