On 27-28 May 2009 the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation hosted a high-level OECD Conference on how Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) can improve environmental performance and mitigate climate change in all sectors of the economy. The theme of “Green ICTs” was discussed in the context of the economic crisis and the role of innovation for green growth.

Outcomes were reflected in the OECD Ministerial Declaration on Green Growth, June 2009. They will be particularly relevant in the context of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, 7-18 December 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark (COP15).

The Conference developed themes from the OECD Workshop on ICTs and Environmental Challenges, Copenhagen, May 2008 and the OECD Ministerial Meeting on the Future of the Internet Economy, Seoul, June 2008.

About the conference

OECD Secretary-General, Angel Gurría, and Danish Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Helge Sander, opened the conference. Over 200 policy makers, representatives from business and civil society, and academic experts advanced the policy agenda on ICTs to improve environmental performance and combat climate change. The over 50 speakers and moderators included:
