High-level OECD Conference: ICTs, the Environment and Climate Change, 27-28 May 2009

On 27-28 May 2009 the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation hosted a high-level OECD Conference on how Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) can improve environmental performance and mitigate climate change in all sectors of the economy. The theme of “Green ICTs” was discussed in the context of the economic crisis and the role of innovation for green growth.

Conference

 

OECD Secretary-General, Angel Gurría, and Danish Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Helge Sander, opened the conference. Policy makers, representatives from business and civil society, and academic experts advanced the policy agenda on ICTs to improve environmental performance and combat climate change. The programme included:

  • Ed Mayo, Chief Executive, Consumer Focus (United Kingdom)
  • Jens Moberg, CEO, Better Place Denmark
  • Russell Pullan, Director New Energy & Clean Technology Ventures, Nomura International
  • Jeannette M. Wing, Assistant Director, National Science Foundation (United States)

Outcomes will contribute to work towards the OECD Council at Ministerial Level  in June 2009. They will be particularly relevant in the context of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, 7-18 December 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark (COP15).
