OECD ministers to discuss climate change, trade and global economy at annual meeting, Paris

The economic impact of climate change, rising food prices and a broad range of other trade, growth and development issues will be discussed at the OECD’s annual ministerial meeting in Paris on 4-5 June 2008. France, represented by Christine Lagarde, Minister for the Economy, Industry and Employment, will chair the meeting, with Mexico and Switzerland as Vice-Chairs.
DAC Chair Announces Agreement to Untie Aid to More Countries

At the High Level Meeting of the OECD’s Development Assistance Committee in Paris, development ministers from donor countries have agreed to untie aid to Bolivia, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guyana, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Republic of Congo. In total, all 39 Highly Indebted Poor Countries will now receive untied aid and will be able to buy goods and services locally at the best price.
Africa’s economic growth in 2007 well above the long-term trend for the fifth consecutive year

Africa’s average real GDP grew by 5.7 per cent in 2007. The 2008 African Economic Outlook report, jointly published by the African Development Bank, the OECD Development Centre and the UNECA expects the rate of GDP growth to strengthen to about 6 per cent in 2008 and in 2009. Oil and mineral exporters account for a disproportionate amount of the continent’s progress. But economic growth is becoming more broad-based with more countries expected to achieve rates of GDP growth above 5 per cent.

Brazil should strengthen corporate liability laws on foreign bribery, says OECD

Brazil should rapidly amend its legislation to make companies directly liable for the payment of bribes to foreign public officials, and to ensure that effective, proportionate and dissuasive sanctions are applicable, according to a new report by the OECD Working Group on Bribery.
