AEO partners present 2008 edition in Cairo

The 2007/2008 edition of the African Economic Outlook (AEO) was presented in Cairo on Thursday 16 October 2008 by a panel of OECD Development Centre and African Development Bank experts.

 

The panel notably included Professor Léonce Ndikumana, Director, Development Research Department, African Development Bank, and Dr. Jose Gijon Spalla, Head and Chief Economist, Africa and Middle East Desk, OECD Development Centre.

 

Following the presentation, participants from government, businesses, civil society and international organisations debated Egypt’s growth prospects and the importance of technical and vocational skills development - the thematic focus of this year's AEO - for Africa’s economic and social development.

 

Leading Egyptian economists participating in the event included Dr. Heba Handousa, Director and Lead Author, National Human Development Report for Egypt, Dr. Alia El Mahdy, Dean, Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University, and Dr. Nihal El-Megharbel, Principal Economist, The Egyptian Centre for Economic Studies.

 

The event was opened by Egypt’s Minister for International Co-operation Mrs. Fayza Aboulnaga and organised with the support of the Government of Italy.
