The establishment of a well-functioning housing finance system is an important policy issue for transition economies. This Workshop has counted three times since the first one was held in Budapest in 1996. The Third Workshop was organised by the Outreach Unit for Financial Sector Reform of the Directorate for Financial Fiscal and Enterprise Affairs of the OECD, under the aegis of the Centre for Co-operation with Non-Members programme, in co-operation with the State Office for Housing and Urban Development in Warsaw, Poland.
The objective of the workshop was twofold. The first was to create a forum for relevant officials and experts to exchange information and to learn from one another's experience in the field of housing finance. The second was to assess the steps needed to develop housing finance systems in transition economies and to review the status of such systems. To this end, the workshop dealt with the several issues to be addressed to facilitate the establishment of market-based housing finance systems in transition economies.
