Mr. Jan WORONIECKI
Born in Lvov in 1944, Mr. Woroniecki studied economics at the Economic University of Warsaw, where he obtained his PhD in Economics in 1981 and a habilitated doctorate in 1990.
In 1967, he entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of International Organisations. Between 1972 and 1980, he held various positions including a posting as Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Poland to the United Nations in Geneva and consultant at UNDP before becoming, in 1981, UNCTAD consultant on Eastern Europe.
He rejoined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982 as Adviser to the Minister and Head of the ECOSOC Division and subsequently as Director of the Department of the UN system. From 1991 to 1996, he was a Professor at Warsaw University, European Institute for Regional Development and a Visiting Professor at the Central European University in Prague from 1993 to 1995.
In 1997, Mr. Woroniecki was assigned as the first Permanent Representative of Poland to the OECD. From 2001 to 2002 he was Senior Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Commissioner for the founding of the Polish Diplomatic Academy where he is a lecturer. From 2003 until his second posting as Permanent Representative of Poland to the OECD, he has been director of the Foreign Economic Policy Department with the rank of Ambassador.
Ambassador Woroniecki has published articles and books on the issues of international trade and investment, international transport, environmental protection, UN history and reform, and Central and Eastern European geopolitics.
Ambassador Woroniecki took up his post with the OECD on 7 December 2005.
