The OECD and the Italian National Research Council are hosting a workshop on Fostering the Development of Human Resources for Science and Technology. The workshop aims to inform policy makers in higher education and research about the current challenges to developing human resources in science and technology (HRST) and policy responses in OECD countries.
Among the issues to be discussed are:
mismatches in supply and demand for S&T personnel;
the changing nature of public and private demand for R&D personnel and implications for research training;
lessons from measures to enhance public understanding of science and the attractiveness of research careers from policy initiatives in order to increase the quantity of S&T;
lessons from measures to enhance multidisciplinary education and training so as to improve the quality of S&T graduates.
In order to ensure lively discussion and frank exchange of views, participation in the workshop will be limited to approximately fifty participants from government, public research management, business and academia. Workshop results will be posted on this website later this year.
