OECD Secretary-General in Tokyo for the G8 Development Ministers' meeting and to launch the Economic Survey of Japan

Angel Gurría, OECD Secretary-General, attended the G8 Development Ministers' meeting in Tokyo on April 5-6. He gave a keynote speech at the first session: Expanding Partnership for Development.

 

On April 4, he was at the Nippon Press Center to participate in a press conference on the release of the annual Official Development Assistance data (ODA).


On April 7, he participated in the 10th African Partnership Forum. The meeting focused on climate change and the Africa Action Plan. The forum concluded with a session on “Boosting Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction”. Read the meeting reports.

 

The same day, he held a press conference for the release of the Economic Survey of Japan, in the presence of Ms. Hiroko Ohta, the Fiscal Minister of Japan. Read the statement by Angel Gurría.

Financial crisis: Save our savings

Amid the worst current financial crisis since the 1930s, EU leaders have pledged to protect savers’ deposits. Already most OECD countries have explicit deposit insurance schemes for savings up to certain limits. In a number of countries these have now been raised temporarily.
