25/02/2008 - Two media events on growth, reform and the economic prospects of OECD countries will take place at OECD in March 2008.

 

Monday 17 March: OECD-IMF Conference on structural reform in Europe

News conference 11.30 a.m. with Angel Gurría and Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing director of the IMF.

Politicians, economists, trades unionists and business leaders meet for a one-day conference -open to the media - on the reforms required to boost jobs and productivity in Europe. Why do some reforms succeed and others fail? Where are reforms most needed? How can they be implemented effectively?

Thursday 20 March: Interim economic outlook for US, Europe and Japan

News conference 11.00 a.m. with Jorgen Elmeskov.

Financial crisis: Save our savings

Amid the worst current financial crisis since the 1930s, EU leaders have pledged to protect savers’ deposits. Already most OECD countries have explicit deposit insurance schemes for savings up to certain limits. In a number of countries these have now been raised temporarily.
