This document summarises the proceeding and papers from three workshop held in 1995-1997 to discuss progress in developing quarterly national accounts in seven countries of Central and Eastern Europe (Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, the Slovak Republic and Slovenia). At the time of the first workshop in 1995, this work was only just beginning, yet by 1997 all these countries were either publishing or about to publish quarterly national accounts on a regular and timely basis.
This work in all these countries was begun as part of the programme between the Centre for Co-operation with Non-Members (CCNM, previously the Centre for Co-operation with the Economies in Transition), through the technical support of the OECD Statistics Directorate. However, since 1995, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland have become members of the OECD and therefore the later stages of the work for these countries also involved staff of the Statistics Directorate concerned with regular work on member countries.
This report is made available to serve as documentation of the new results for these countries and also to demonstrate the process of developing accounts to those countries not quite as advance process.
