Environmental Biotechnology R&D
The lack of clear, practical and internationally agreed guidance on how to manage and evaluate the development of Environmental Biotechnology R&D starting from the laboratory research up to the field application in the open environment, presents a major barrier that impedes further development of Environmental Biotechnology. Such a situation might negatively impact public trust and public perception with regards to this sector too.
The OECD is exploring those barriers and will be formulating guidance on how the barriers might be overcome. A workshop is being planned in Spring 2010 (dates and location to be confirmed) which will aim at building consensus on the scope of main issues that Environmental Biotechnology R&D faces and on the ways to overcome those. This work is under the auspices of the OECD Working Party on Biotechnology
