OECD DAC – World Water Council Report on Aid Activities in Support of Water Supply and Sanitation launched at the World Water Forum

On 20 March 2009, the OECD DAC – World Water Council publication on aid activities in support of water supply and sanitation 2001-2006 has been formally launched at the World Water Forum in Istanbul.

Valérie Gaveau and Florence Poppe from the OECD Secretariat have provided an overview of the publication, followed by a panel discussion. Panelists included Jon Lane, Executive Director of the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council; Bai-Mass Taal, Executive Secretary of the African Ministers Council on Water; Ousseini Thanou, Burkina Faso’s Water Director, Lise Breuil, Task Team Leader of AFD’s Water and Sanitation Division (France) and Sanjay Wijesekera, Leader of DFID’s Water Team (UK). The session has been chaired Alan Nicol, Research Fellow at ODI’s Water Policy Programme

The report presents comprehensive statistics on aid flows in support of water supply and sanitation for the years 2001-2006, including trends in donors’ aid and the degree of targeting of countries most in need. Individual donor profiles provide summary statistics in the form of charts and tables, and descriptions of donors’ development co-operation policies in the water sector. The publication also records the relevant aid activities reported by DAC members and multilateral institutions to the CRS Aid Activity database (Creditor Reporting System). The information is based on individual commitments and disbursements of Official Development Assistance (ODA) to water supply and sanitation.
