Richard Yelland, Head of Policy Advice and Implementation Division (Directorate for Education)

Richard Yelland is Head of the Policy Advice and Implementation Division (PAI) in the Directorate for Education at the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development).

OECD’s motto is ‘Better Policies for Better Lives’ and the Directorate’s mission is to assist in achieving high quality lifelong learning for all that contributes to personal development, sustainable economic growth and social cohesion.

Drawing on the data, evidence and analysis developed by the Directorate for Education’s teams of statisticians and analysts PAI coordinates the provision of advice on education policy to OECD members and other countries, both collectively and individually, across all sectors of education.

Richard joined OECD in 1986 from the then Department of Education and Science in the United Kingdom. He is frequently invited to speak at international meetings on education. He was born and educated in England, and has a degree from the University of Cambridge. He is married to Anne and they have three children.
