More about the OECD Global Project on "Measuring the Progress of Societies"

Around the World, societies are increasingly concerned with their quality of life. And a consensus is growing around the need to develop a more comprehensive view of progress – one that takes into account social, environmental and economic concerns – rather than focusing mainly on economic indicators like Gross Domestic Product, which while an important measure of economic activity, was not developed to be the sole measure of a nation’s progress.  As a result hundreds of initiatives are underway around the world, in every continent, to develop better measures of progress.

The OECD Global Project on "Measuring the Progress of Societies" is fostering this work. In collaboration with other international and regional partners the project seeks to become the world wide reference point for those who wish to measure, or assess, the progress of their societies.  The project is being built around a series of World Forums and encompasses associated work within and outside of the OECD.
