1. Media Accreditation

Journalists can register for the High-Level Forum "Key Challenges for Science and Innovation Policy", the Reception at the Museum d'Histoire Natuelle and Press Conference of the Meeting of OECD Science and Technology Ministers by contacting the OECD Media Relations Division (tel: [33] 1 45 24 97 00).

2. Briefings, News Conferences and Events

Thursday 29 January 2004

  • 12.00 noon.  Briefing by Dr. Baldwin Sipho Ngubane, Minister of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology of South Africa on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development.
  • 1.00 p.m.  Briefing lunch with OECD Secretariat officials on current OECD work on the other main topics of the ministerial meeting, including biotechnology.
  • 7.00 p.m. Reception with Forum participants at the Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle, Grande Galerie de l'Evolution, Jardin des Plantes, 36 rue Geoffroy Saint Hilaire, 75005 Paris. Briefing with the Chair and vice-chairs of the Ministerial meeting.

Friday 30 January 2004

  • 12.30 p.m. Briefing by Pedro Morenes, Secretary of State for Science and Technology Policy (Spain).
  • 12.45 p.m. Briefing by Pascal Couchepin, Head of the Federal Department of Home Affairs (Switzerland).
  • 1.15 p.m. Briefing by Letizia Moratti, Minister for Education, Universities and Research (Italy). 
  • 2.15 p.m. Briefing by Dutch Minister for Education, Science and Culture Maria van der Hoeven on challenges in ensuring access to research data from public funding.
  • 3.15 p.m. Communiqué and closing news briefing by the chair of the Ministerial meeting, Australian Science Minister Peter McGauran, OECD Secretary-General Donald J. Johnston and other Ministers. 
    3.30  p.m.  Briefing by Tuula Haatainen, Finnish Minister of Education

 

3. Practical Information

  • For security reasons, journalists will be required to show their press card, national identity card or passport.
  • Journalists will be informed of national media briefings as they are organised.
  • Outside formal news conferences, interviews with ministers can be arranged on an individual basis through their national delegations or OECD Media-Relations staff.
  • Press room with computer and phone hook-ups will be available.
  • The OECD TV, radio and videoconference studios will be available to all broadcast journalists on a first come, first served basis. This includes cameras, editing facilities, ISDN lines and the necessary technicians. These facilities are available free of charge.
  • Photos of the meeting will be uploaded on the Web site as they become available. High-resolution photos can then be obtained through Silvia Thompson
