Development aid fell by 4% in real terms in 2012, following a 2% fall in 2011. There is also a noticeable shift in aid away from the poorest countries and towards middle-income countries.

Analyses of aid

From numbers to meaning –
what stories do the data tell us?

Analyses of aid flows undertaken by the DAC Secretariat focus on donor performance and trends in ODA at the global level. In addition, the Secretariat produces studies on aid to specific sectors and themes, and makes available ready-made tables and charts on ODA by donor and recipient. Guidance on the use of DAC statistics for analytical purposes is also provided.

Methodology

Behind the numbers – reporting instructions, definitions and guidance notes

DAC statistical data collection is based on a standard methodology and agreed definitions, ensuring comparability of data across donors and recipients. Detailed information on ODA eligibility, classifications and collection methods are given in the Reporting Directives.
