March

David Khoudour-Castéras will participate in a Global Migration Seminar at the Graduate Institute in Geneva, Switzerland, 12 March. He will give a presentaion on the Development Centre's book, Tackling the Policy Challenges of Migration.

 

2011

 

December

David Khoudour-Castéras and Jason Gagnon represented the OECD at the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) 2011 Concluding Debate, in Geneva, Switzerland, 29 November - 2 December. They presented the book "Tackling the Policy Challenges of Migration: Regulation, Integration, Development".

 

November

The OECD Development Centre and the Institute for the Study of International Migration (ISIM), Georgetown University co-hosted a conference for the launch of the book, "Tackling the Policy Challenges of Migration" in Washington, DC on 17 November.

 

October

David Khoudour-Castéras presented the Development Centre's work on immigrant integration in the South at the GFMD thematic meeting on  "From Evidence to Action - Facilitating South-South Labour Migration", organised by the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Government of Switzerland in Abuja, Nigeria, 17-18 October.

 

September

Jason Gagnon participated in a Conference on "West and Central African labour markets", organized by International Development Research Centre (IDRC) in Dakar, Senegal, 22-23 September. He made a presentation on migration, labour markets and social cohesion.

 

May

David Khoudour-Castéras presented the Development Centre's work on the governance of migration at a workshop on "Migration Policies' Image and Representation in the Media and Public Debate in Europe since 1992", Centre de Recherche sur les Identités Nationales et l'Interculturalité (CRINI), Université de Nantes, 27 May.

 

April

David Khoudour-Castéras participated in the Consultation on "Migration and mobility for development - Towards a migrant-centered approach", European commission (EC), Brussels, 11 April. 

 

Jason Gagnon participated in the Conference Migration: Economic Change, Social Challenge held at University College London, 6-9 April. He presented two papers:

David Khoudour-Castéras represented the Development Centre at the Seminar on Management of Labor Migration in Dakar, Senegal, 29-31 March. He made a presentation on South-South Labour Migration in West Africa.

 

February

David Khoudour-Castéras represented the Development Centre at the Ninth Coordination Meeting on International Migration, Population Division, Department of Economic and Social Affairs, United Nations Secretariat, New York, 17-18 February 2011. His presentation focused on “Migrant integration in the South: What does it mean and how can we measure it?”

 

David Khoudour-Castéras also gave a lecture at Colombia University, on 16 February, at 6 p.m, focussing on The Rise of South-South Migration: What Are the Social Challenges for Latin America?

 

January

The OECD Development Centre hosted an International Conference on Social Cohesion and Development on 20-21 January 2011. The parallel session “Migration, integration and ethnic diversity” included three presentations, including one from the migration team:

• Immigration and Political Stability (ppt), by Astghik Mavisakalyan (Australian National University) and Tesfaye Gebremedhin (University of Canberra);
• Public Good Provision, Diversity and Distribution (ppt), by Ken Jackson (Wilfrid Laurier University);
• The Southward Shift in International Migration: Social Challenges and Policy Implications (ppt), by David Khoudour-Castéras, Jason Gagnon and Victoire Lefebvre (OECD Development Centre).

 

2010

 

December

Workshop on Immigrant Integration in Ghana co-organised by the OECD Development Centre and ISSER in Accra, 8 December 2010.

 

November

David Khoudour-Castéras represented the Development Centre at a conference on "Migration dynamics, return migration and impacts on origin societies in Maghreb and West Africa" organised by the AMERM and the IRD in Rabat, 22-23 November.

 

David Khoudour-Castéras represented the Development Centre during the Global Forum on Migration and Development 2010 (GFMD), Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, 8-11 November.

 

October

Jason Gagnon presented some of the findings from the MacArthur Foundation Project in a conference hosted by the CREAD: "Quelle migration pour quel développement en Afrique ?", Tipaza, Algeria, 19-22 October.

 

June

Expert roundtable on the Social Aspects of Migration and Development, European Commission, EuropeAid Co-operation Office, Brussels, Belgium, 21 June. David Khoudour-Castéras presented in the panel “Integrating migration issues in the social and development policies.”

 

Annual International Conference of the German Economic Association Research Committee on Development Economics, Leibniz-Universität Hannover, Germany, 18-19 June. Jason Gagnon presented the paper “Stay with Us? The Impact of Emigration on Wages in Honduras”.

 

May

Global Migration Group Symposium on Overcoming barriers: Building partnerships for migration and human development, United Nations, Geneva, Switzerland, 27-28 May. Johannes Jütting and David Khoudour-Castéras presented in the working group “Mainstreaming migration in national development strategies”.

David Khoudour-Castéras represented the Development Centre during the Second meeting of the Friends of the Forum (Global Forum on Migration and Development), United Nations, Geneva, Switzerland, 29 April.

The Development Centre organised a Workshop on Migration in West Africa: Governance and Links to Labour Markets  - on 25 March in Dakar, Senegal.

 

Jason Gagnon represented the Development Centre during the Workshop on “Migration Management in the Mediterranean Region: Taking stock, reviewing, and looking ahead”, World Bank, Marseille, France, 8-9 March.

Workshop on Migration and Economic Development: insights from original data collection and fieldworks, Centro Studi Luca d’Agliano, Florence, Italy, 5-7 February. Abla Safir presented the paper “Who leaves, who moves in? The impact of positive and negative income shocks on migration in Senegal”.

Workshop on Migration in Central America. The OECD Development Centre and FLACSO co-hosted a workshop on June 25th, 2009 in San Jose, Costa Rica to discuss migration issues in Central America.

 

Abla Safir and Jason Gagnon represented the Development Centre during the European Society for Population Economics (ESPE), Sevilla.
