Port-au-Prince, Haiti

Agenda

The OECD Development Centre and the European Commission organized a consultation meeting on the interrelations between public policies, migration and development in Haiti on 23 July 2015, from 9.00 to 18.00 in Port-au-Prince.

The project

In January 2013, the OECD launched the project "Interrelations between public policies, migration and development of partner countries: case studies and policy recommendations", which aims at enhancing the capacity of ten partner countries to incorporate migration into the design and implementation of their development strategies. The project seeks to better understand how international migration affects non-migration related public policies, and conversely, how these policies affect migration. The project is co-funded by the EU Thematic Programme on Migration and Asylum and managed by the OECD Development Centre.

Given the significant weight of emigration and its importance for the development of the country, Haiti is one of the ten countries involved in the project. The other partner countries are Armenia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Côte d’Ivoire, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Georgia, Morocco and the Philippines. The project aims to provide empirical evidence on the interrelations between migration and public policies based on quantitative and qualitative fieldwork. The methodological framework was developed by the OECD Development Centre and implemented in Haiti by INURED.

The event

The consultation meeting served as a platform to bring together relevant stakeholders in Haiti to discuss preliminary findings and open a dialogue on different points of views and interpretations. The meeting contributed to enriching the analysis at the country level, and offered an opportunity to discuss early results of the project.
