The OECD Development Centre forecasts that real growth in the region will return to pre-crisis levels of 5.5% in 2013-17. The main messages of this Policy Brief "Transforming social institutions to prevent violence against women and girls and improve development outcomes" are that reducing violence against women matters for development; laws alone will not reduce violence against women; public awareness and community mobilisation programmes as well as economic support for women and incentives are necessary.
