Evaluation of UNDP Contribution to Strengthening Electoral Systems and Processes

Election Evaluation The study evaluates UNDP contribution to electoral assistance between 1990 and 2011, and in the past decade in particular. Looking across a diverse range of contexts, it evaluates the relevance, effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability of interventions, the added value of UNDP support, responsiveness to evolving demand, and the challenges and opportunities inherent to the process.

Evaluation of UNDP Partnership with Global Funds and Philanthropic Foundations

Drawing on evidence from 70 UNDP programme countries, including detailed lessons from thirteen country case studies, the evaluation considers the strategic importance of UNDP as an implementer for global funds and foundations.

Assessment of Development Results: Liberia

The review found that UNDP has clearly attempted to support national efforts spearheaded by the government to address the underlying structural causes of conflict, working with the Governance Commission, relevant ministries and subsequently established targeted commissions.

While UNDP has undertaken several projects to facilitate poverty-reduction in specific sectors and regions, generally, these projects had limited impact and the sustainability of any results achieved was questionable.

The evaluation found that UNDP contributions have been important in terms of responding to national priorities and government needs. During the period covered by the evaluation, UNDP technical support to the government strengthened institutional development and enhanced policy formulation.

Assessment of Development Results: Thailand

The report validated the effectiveness of many UNDP initiatives especially at the sub-national level. UNDP has also provided targeted assistance to vulnerable and marginalized population groups. Ensuring the sustainability of development results however has been a challenge.

Assessment of Development Results: Malawi

The evaluation found some highly successful interventions that have helped situate UNDP as an important partner. UNDP has done exemplary work in supporting elections, strengthening communities to hold the Government accountable, empowering women for financial inclusion and managing disasters.

Assessment of Development Results: Laos

The evaluation found that UNDP has made important contributions, helping the Government coordinate development assistance and integrate poverty reduction into its national development plan, strengthen local governance.
