Transparent design and implementation of domestic regulation reduces administrative burdens and costs for government and firms, according to case studies from Australia, the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States. Transparency mechanisms also make laws and regulations more readable and accessible, prevent potential frictions with trading partners, and improves domestic policy enforcement.

Producer countries are making greater use of export restrictions on industrial raw materials such as timber and rare earths. Food commodity exports have also been restricted in recent years. OECD analysis shows that countries can use more effective and less costly alternatives to export restrictions.
