Registrations are now open for the 2012 Summit of the International Transport Forum, a leading global transport policy platform linked to the OECD. The Summit will take place on 2-4 May in the city of Leipzig, Germany. It will bring together ministers, industry leaders and top experts from the Forum’s 53 member countries and beyond. The theme of the 2012 Summit is “Seamless Transport: Making Connections”.

The July edition of our Statistics Brief looks at trends in transport infrastructure investment and maintenance spending from 1995 to 2009. The data shows record investment levels in Central and Eastern European countries, with 7.6% growth in 2008/9, amounting to 2.0% of GDP (2009). In Western Europe and North America, the GDP share of investment in inland transport infrastructure has remained almost constant over the past decade.

China has officially declared its intention to join the International Transport Forum.
The Vice-Minister for Transport, Mr. GAO Hongfeng, made the announcement during the annual summit of Transport Ministers from the International Transport Forum's 52 current member countries in Leipzig on Thursday 26 May 2011.
