Work of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) on trade and development (www.oecd.org/dac/trade) aims to (1) enhance donor co-ordination & alignment in the design, delivery and evaluation of trade-related technical assistance and capacity building programmes; (2) provide practical guidance to donors and partners for maximizing aid effectiveness in that area; and (3) promote greater coherence between trade and other development policies in donor and partner countries.

The OECD organised a series of Practitioners Fora on Monitoring Aid for Trade as part of the regional aid-for-trade events that were hosted by the WTO and the Regional Development Banks in Latin America (Lima, Peru, 13-14 September), Asia (Manila, Philippines, 19-21 September), and Africa (Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, 1-2 October) in advance of the first Annual Global Review of Aid for Trade in the November 2007 WTO General Council meeting.

A Policy Dialogue between OECD Members and non-Members "Aid for Trade: From Policy to Practice" took place in Doha, Qatar on 6 and 7 November 2006. This Policy Dialogue between OECD and non-OECD countries on Aid for Trade brought together a wide range of stakeholders from developing and developed countries to share experiences and information on how best to support developing countries' trade expansion and make it an engine of economic growth and poverty reduction. The amount of trade-related technical assistance and capacity building — to help developing and least-developed countries to participate more efficiently in international trade — has increased by 50% since the Doha Ministerial Declaration in November 2001, according to a joint report by the WTO and the OECD.
