DAC peer reviews (www.oecd.org/dac/peerreviews) are a central and unique OECD activity. The reviews monitor individual members' efforts and performance in the area of development co-operation. Each member is critically examined approximately once every four years; this way five or six programmes are examined annually.

Switzerland’s aid volume was USD 2.02 billion in 2008 (2.19 billion CHF), an increase of more than 6% over the previous year, and a total of 0.421% of its gross national income (GNI).

Sweden spent USD 4.73 billion on overseas development assistance (ODA) in 2008. This amounted to 0.98% of its gross national income (GNI), making Sweden the most generous DAC donor countries as a proportion of its economy. This is particularly laudable in a time of global recession.

Austria’s official development assistance (ODA) was 0.42% of its gross national income (GNI) in 2008, putting it in 11th place among OECD’s Development Assistance Committee (DAC) donors.

Ireland’s net official development assistance (ODA) was USD 1.3 billion in 2008, a 90% increase over 2003 in real terms. Ireland’s aid grew from 0.39% of gross national income in 2003 to 0.58% in 2008 during a period of exceptional national economic growth.
