Council adopts Resolution on the Implementation of the SAICM

A Resolution on the Implementation of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) was adopted by Council on 28 March 2008 and welcomed by Environment Ministers of OECD countries and major non-member economies at their meeting at OECD on the 28-29 April 2008.

Release of the OECD (Q)SAR Application Toolbox

The OECD (Q)SAR Application Toolbox is a software application intended to be used by governments, the chemical industry and other stakeholders to fill gaps in (eco)toxicity data needed for assessing the hazards of chemicals.  With this Toolbox, a user can fill data gaps by read-across and trend analysis, group chemicals into categories and gain access to a library of (Q)SAR models. Testing a Representative Set of Nanomaterials – The Launch of a Sponsorship Programme

OECD’s Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials, has launched a “sponsorship programme” in which countries will share the testing of specific nanomaterials (MNs).  Much valuable information on the safety of MNs can be derived by testing a representative set for human health and environmental safety.  In launching this “sponsorship programme” the Working Party agreed a priority list of MNs for testing (based on materials which are in or close to commerce) as well as a list of endpoints for which they should be tested.  The OECD will be making regular updates on this programme.

This document provides information on current/planned activities related to the safety of manufactured nanomaterials in OECD member countries.  Information was provided by delegations who participated in the 2nd Meeting of OECD's Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials.  There are also reports on relevant current activities in other International Organisations such as the ISO. In addition, delegations added a short list of highlights at the top of their submissions to give readers a general idea of key events since the 1st meeting of the Working Party.

Launch of eChemPortal: The Global Portal to Information on Chemical Substances

eChemPortal is an internet gateway that provides direct free access to information on the properties of chemicals (physical-chemical properties, environmental fate and behaviour, ecotoxicity, toxicity) as well as to hazard and risk assessments. It allows users to simultaneously search multiple databases, most of which are prepared for government chemical review programmes.
