Biosafety - BioTrack

BioTrack Online focuses on information related to the regulatory oversight of products of modern biotechnology, including genetically engineered organisms or transgenic organisms, in the field of the environmental safety and the food and feed safety . It includes various Consensus/ Guidance Documents, Product Database, regulatory contacts of member countries, and Field Trials Database.

What's new

Publication of the brochure: The OECD and the Risk/Safety Assessment of Modern Biotechnology

22-Nov-2007

This Brochure on the safety of modern biotechnology work at OECD captures activities of both the Task Force on the Safety of Novel Foods and Feeds and the Working Group on Harmonization of Regulatory Oversight in Biotechnology. Hard copies are available from us on request at icgb@oecd.org.

ICGB biotechnology newsletter no. 18 published

20-Sep-2007

A new issue of the OECD Biotechnology Update has been published. This newsletter provides up-to-date information on the diverse activities at OECD related to biotechnology

Publication of a new consensus document on Safety Information on Transgenic Plants Expressing Bacillus thuringiensis

03-Aug-2007

This document addresses the general information concerning the δ-endotoxin genes and their protein toxin products that confer insect protection to plants. The United States served as the lead country in the preparation of this document.

OECD Workshop on the Development of a Unique Identifier for Bacteria

06-Jul-2007

An OECD workshop was held by the Sub-working Group on Micro-organisms of the OECD Working Group on Harmonisation of Regulatory Oversight in Biotechnology (the Working Group), 20-22 June 2007 at Moscow State University.

Publication of a New Consensus Document on the Biology of the Native North American Larches

22-May-2007

This Consensus Document addresses information for use during the environmental risk/ safety assessment of products derived from modern biotechnology whose recipient organism is the Native North American Larches.

The Consensus Document on Compositional Considerations for New Varieties of Sunflower has now been published

25-Apr-2007

This consensus document addresses compositional considerations for new varieties of sunflower by identifying the key food and feed nutrients and anti-nutrients. A general description of these components is provided. As well, there is background material on the production, processing and uses of sunflowers and considerations to be taken when assessing new sunflower varieties.

Beyond the Blue Book: Workshop on Framework for Risk/ Safety Assessment for Transgenic Plants

06-Nov-2006

The OECD workshop to discuss the framework for risk assessment of transgenic plants and OECD's role was held on 29 September 2006 in conjunction with the 9th International Symposium on the Biosafety of Genetically Modified Organisms (ISBGMO).

Publication of a new consensus document on the biology of Pinus Banksiana (Jack Pine)

07-Sep-2006

This Consensus Document addresses information for use during the environmental risk/ safety assessment of products derived from modern biotechnology whose recipient organism is Jack pine.

Abstracts of the OECD Workshop on the Biology of Atlantic Salmon (Salmo Salar)

06-Sep-2006

This workshop was held in Moscow, Russian Federation, 29 November - 1 December 2004. The objective of the workshop was to identify and review the kinds of  baseline information of (non-transgenic) traditional fish farming or breeding, and to determine what information might be relevant to risk/ safety assessment.

Safety Assessment of Transgenic Organisms: OECD Consensus Documents (Vols. 1 & 2)

30-Aug-2006

These OECD Biosafety Consensus Documents identify elements of scientific information used in the environmental safety and risk assessment of transgenic organisms which are common to OECD member countries.  This is intended to encourage information sharing and prevent duplication of effort among countries. This book offers ready access to those consensus documents which have been published thus far. As such, it should be of value to applicants for commercial uses of transgenic crops, regulators in national authorities as well as the wider scientific community.

ICGB Biotechnology Newsletter No. 16 Published

18-May-2006

The purpose of the OECD Biotechnology Update is to provide up-to-date information on the diverse activities at OECD related to biotechnology. The newsletter is mainly intended for delegates to OECD meetings who are familiar with OECD's work. However, we hope that it also serves a purpose to the wider biotech community.

Points to Consider for Consensus Documents on the Biology of Cultivated Plants

31-Mar-2006

The Points to Consider document, a structured explanatory checklist of relevant points to consider in preparing or evaluating a consensus document on the biology of cultivated vascular plant species, is now available.
