Change in the labour markets in many countries over the last two decades has resulted in the requirement for labour statistics in not only "traditional" areas such as employment and unemployment but also for indicators on qualitative aspects such as temporary/part-time employment, earnings, etc.

The OECD area unemployment rate was stable at 8.2% in November 2011, unchanged since August. The rate has hovered at this level since January 2011. However, stability at the aggregate level masks different national situations.

Unit labour costs (ULCs) in the OECD area fell 0.3% in the third quarter of 2011, according to early estimates. ULCs fell in most major economies.
