SMEs and Entrepreneurship

The OECD Working Party on Small and Medium-sized Enterprises & Entrepreneurship (WPSMEE) is a high-level international forum for SME policy makers who work to promote entrepreneurship and advance the performance of small businesses by reviewing issues and diffusing best practice policies in such areas as: business environment, globalisation, financing, innovation, training, access to markets, taxation, e-business, women's entrepreneurship. Strengthening international co-operation with OECD non-member economies and international organisations is also given high priority.

The Impact of the Global Crisis on SME and Entrepreneurship Financing and Policy Responses

The present report analyses the impact of the global crisis on SMEs and entrepreneurs’ access to finance and present strategies so far adopted by governments to deal with the problem. The report also brings to the attention of governments recommendations to tackle the long-standing deficiencies in the SME financial environment, as well as to prepare SMEs and entrepreneurs for a phase of innovation-led growth.

New Report: Evaluation of Programmes Concerning Education for Entrepreneurship

Fostering an entrepreneurial mindset has become a shared objective of entrepreneurship policy across OECD countries. The offer of programs of entrepreneurship education is very wide, with some countries having invested substantially in it. However, this has not been reflected in the systematic application of evaluation of education for entrepreneurship programs. The OECD Working Party on SMEs and Entrepreneurship carried out a study to provide guidelines for evaluating programs with the aim to strengthen the culture of evaluation within entrepreneurship education.

Round Table on the Impact of the Global Crisis on SME and Entrepreneurship Financing and Policy Responses

A two day Round Table was held under the auspices of the OECD Working Party on SMEs and Entrepreneurship (WPSMEE) in Turin, Italy on 26 and 27 March 2009 at the invitation of the Banca Intesa Sanpaolo. The round table aimed to promote a tri-partite dialogue among governments, SMEs and financial institutions, on possible measures to help SMEs and entrepreneurs through the crisis and suggest recommendations. It will be a basis for the WPSMEE's input into the OECD Strategic Response to the Financial and Economic Crisis.
