DAC invites France to continue to play its leading role

France is one of the international community’s key players in development co-operation. French Official Development Assistance was USD 9.94 billion in 2007, ranking France third among DAC member countries.

The Development Assistance Committee commends Luxembourg on its aid commitment – encourages further efforts on aid effectiveness

Luxembourg is a generous and committed donor. Its aid rose in real terms by almost 12% from 2006 (constant USD 291 million) and 2007 (constant USD 325 million) to 0.90% of its GNI, making Luxembourg the third most generous donor in percentage terms.

DAC Chair Announces Agreement to Untie Aid to More Countries

At the High Level Meeting of the OECD’s Development Assistance Committee in Paris, development ministers from donor countries have agreed to untie aid to Bolivia, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guyana, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Republic of Congo. In total, all 39 Highly Indebted Poor Countries will now receive untied aid and will be able to buy goods and services locally at the best price.

Survey on Aid Allocation Policies and Indicative Forward Spending Plans

This survey helps to identify resource gaps and opportunities for scaling up in individual partner countries. This report is a key stimulus to improving the medium term predictability of aid, as called for in the Paris Declaration and by the UN Secretary General’s MDG Africa Steering Group.

OECD takes up the torch of gender equality and women’s empowerment

On 21/5/08 the Swedish Minister for Development Co-operation Gunilla Carlsson presented MDG3 champion torches to the OECD’s Secretary-General, Angel Gurría, and to the Chair of the DAC, Eckhard Deutscher. The presentation was part of the Danish government’s MDG3 Global Call to Action to increase international support and investments in the achievement of gender equality and women's empowerment (MDG3). The last of 100 torches will be presented to the UN Secretary-General on 25 September.

OECD Global Forum on Development: Strengthening Country Ownership

This year’s Plenary of the Global Forum brought together senior policy makers and experts to discuss “ownership”, the first principle of the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness. Participants grappled with controversial issues like conditionality, called for more transparent and predictable aid, and agreed on the need to support Southern research institutions and think tanks.

Development aid in 2007 indicates that the 22 member countries of the OECD Development Assistance Committee, the world’s major donors, provided USD 103.7 billion in aid in 2007.
