Biocides

The OECD Biocide Programme has two main objectives: (1) to increase the efficiency in the registration of biocides; and (2) to help countries to reduce risks associated with biocides use.  Biocides are chemical products designed to kill unwanted organisms (e.g., sterilisers, disinfectants).

New Publication from the Series on Biocides No. 1

The OECD has published a new guidance document which focuses on microbiological efficacy testing.  It covers efficacy testing of articles treated with antimicrobials in the manufacturing process with the intention of the achieving an external effect. Also included are articles which have been in some way modified during service so as to exert an antimicrobial effect.

New Publication from the Series on Emission Scenario No. 18

OECD published a new Emission Scenario Document (ESD) which is intended to provide information to be used for risk assessment for active substances and products used as biocidal (i.e. non agricultural) insecticides, acaricides and products to control other arthropods. It describes methods for estimating emissions of these products, excluding the insecticide treatments for vector control. Users are encouraged to provide updated information for its continuous development.
