The event is growing in scope and importance. More than 3000 people have chosen to subscribe to this newsletter over the past months, with numbers still increasing by several hundred each month.

The Istanbul Webcast

different time zones. |

Support the Istanbul World Forum |
| The OECD would welcome your assistance
in raising awareness of this conference. We want to ensure that all those who are interested are able to follow the conference online. You might
be able to pass on this newsletter to your networks or advertise the conference and website on your own internet site
for instance. We are also aware that in many developing countries the quality of a typical Internet connection is not
adequate for those wanting to follow a webcast and we may need to arrange special events where people can gather to
watch the webcast over a high speed internet connection. If you can offer assistance with this we would be very pleased
to hear from you. Please contact Mr. Jeroen Meyer from the World Forum team to discuss this. |
| How to Participate |
|
Participation at the OECD World Forum is by invitation only. However, if you would like to attend please send your CV and short justification of why this Forum is important to your work.
Please email oecdworldforum@oecd.org and we will consider your request. |

| What People Know about Societal Progress |
|
Statistical information plays a vital role in shaping the expectations and behaviour of individuals, the operation of markets and the democratic process.
Much less attention has been paid to what people - including politicians and government officials -
actually know about the situation of their country and how such knowledge (or ignorance) influences public debate
and policies.
The IFO Institute, the European Commission, the Istituto di Studi e Analisi Economica and the Survey Research Center
at the University of Michigan are working together with the OECD on developing surveys in several countries that examine both people’s knowledge
of key figures for their country and the extent to which public debate is based on solid statistical evidence. The first results
of this work are now available. More results will be presented at the World Forum in Istanbul.
