Financial inclusion, financial consumer protection, and financial education policies in CLMV countries

This webinar is specially for policymakers in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV) and it will focus on the latest updates with regards to the development and implementation of policies and strategies for financial inclusion, financial consumer protection and financial education. It will feature speakers from public, private and not-for-profit sectors, who will share recent experiences in supporting consumers’ financial well-being in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and increasing digitalisation.
In particular, speakers and participants will have an opportunity to:

  • Discuss recent evidence on financial literacy and financial inclusion levels in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam
  • Share updates on recent developments in financial inclusion, financial consumer protection and financial education policies, and their implementation
  • Focus on challenges faced by the most vulnerable groups, and specific financial inclusion, financial consumer protection and financial education measures put in place by public, private or not-for-profit sectors to address these challenges
  • Reflect on the role of digitalisation and the COVID-19 pandemic in driving digital finance adoption and increasing digital financial education delivery

This webinar is open to participants from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam, including officials and experts from ministries of finance, central banks, regulatory and supervisory authorities, governmental officials, as well as international organisations, the academic community, the private sector and NGOs.

This webinar explored financial consumer protection, financial education and financial inclusion policy responses put in place by policy makers across the Asia-Pacific region to support those hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on vulnerable groups. It drew on a report being prepared by the OECD on financial consumer protection and education policy and practice responses implemented in the region.
In particular, speakers and particpants had the opportunity to:

  • Discuss recent evidence on financial literacy levels in the region
  • Share financial consumer protection and financial responses implemented by different Asia-Pacific jurisdictions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Focus on challenges faced by the most vulnerable groups in the region and the support they receive to manage the current financial shock
  • Reflect on the role of consumer protection and financial education to support financial resilience in the current environment and for the longer-term

This webinar was attended by delegates from Asia-Pacific economies, including officials and experts from the OECD International Network on Financial Education (INFE), the G20/OECD Task Force on Financial Consumer Protection, ministries of finance, centrral banks, regulatory and supervisory authorities, government officials, as well as international organisations, the academic community, the private sector and NGOs.
